Apparently does not care about my facial hair. For the past too many weeks of my life I have been growing this atrocity:
It pains me to look at it even now. To the well trained eye this is obviously a "playoff beard". I have said that I would not shave it until the Flyers are out of the NHL playoffs. Tuesday night the Flyers fell into a 0-3 hole in their best-of-seven series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. It seems my beard's luck has run out, so it's now finally gone and hopefully my lack of beard will bring even better luck!
Is that for delivery or take out?
I was driving through downtown Rochester the other day and noticed the guy in the car behind me puffing away at his cigarette. He was hot-boxing it with the windows up. What killed me was that I also noticed he had one of those light-up Papa Johns magnetic delivery signs on top of the car.
Much is given
I have my own little office space in the Medical Center now. I'll post a picture later, but it's pretty neat. It's my own space with a desk and bookshelf and window (NOT overlooking a parking lot), but it's located in a huge lab. Kinda difficult to explain. My phone line will be hooked up on Tuesday, I've already got my own identity on the medical center intranet server (complete with email address @urmc.rochester.edu), and I'll get my own personal work computer whenever I get around to ordering it. Not a bad deal eh? Too bad that there's responsibility tied to all of this...
I made this! (sort of)
We've had this map on the wall for a while and now that we're officially staying in Rochester we thought it was time to actually make it look nice - not just like a poster you would see hanging up in a dorm room.
We got the moulding from Lowes and the stain and clear-coat finish from Wal-Mart. With some help from my friend Bob (a passionate Penguins fan and has cable and lets me watch the games over his house) who has a miter saw, I was able to make this frame. Not too bad if I say so myself.

hooray smooth face! Thanks Susan and Larry for the map and moulding idea!
Sorry about the Flyers, Dan, but if that's what it took for you to look like a human being again... I hope you learned that this was just a foolish superstition. Why don't you try something else for good luck, like carry a dime in your pocket, or something...??? Just an idea.
Remind us never to order Papa John's Pizza when we're visiting...
Your office sounds impressive. Now I suppose you'll be expected to produce something commensurate with your trappings. I have confidence you'll do just that, Dan!
Cool frame. Now we can teach JJ the name of all the countries - we'll begin with the ones family has visited and move on from there. And after grad school, you can work on becoming a carpenter. Some pretty impressive people have started out as carpenters you know!
