I'm So Pleased With Myself

I finally found something fun to spend my birthday money on...new phones for Lisa and me!

They're BlackBerry Pearl 8130s. Lisa's is red and mine is black. I figured it wouldn't be nearly as fun if I only got it for myself, so I got one for each of us!

I know what you're thinking to yourself...those phones cost $500 each and data plans are really expensive- how can you possibly afford that?! Well that, my dears, is why I'm so pleased with myself. I'm not going to get into all the nitty-gritty details, but let's just say that we now pay about $15 LESS per month on our cell-phone bill and we both have our same 800mins shared family plan, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited email and data plans for our BlackBerries. Oh and Sprint knocked $400 off of each phone too.

Apparently struggling wireless telecommunication companies would rather throw everything including the kitchen sink at you for free rather than lose you to one of their main competitors! We get everything from internet to satellite-guided directions to whatever you can imagine now on our phones. I was like a little boy on Christmas morning waiting for the UPS man to come and deliver our new technological package :)

New blog addition!

In preparation for our upcoming trip to Hawaii, I have configured this blog to receive messages and picture directly from my phone. So as we do cool and interesting things and are at various places, I'll be taking pictures and posting commentary just right there at the spot!

Bits

Lady Luck

Apparently does not care about my facial hair. For the past too many weeks of my life I have been growing this atrocity:

It pains me to look at it even now. To the well trained eye this is obviously a "playoff beard". I have said that I would not shave it until the Flyers are out of the NHL playoffs. Tuesday night the Flyers fell into a 0-3 hole in their best-of-seven series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. It seems my beard's luck has run out, so it's now finally gone and hopefully my lack of beard will bring even better luck!

Is that for delivery or take out?

I was driving through downtown Rochester the other day and noticed the guy in the car behind me puffing away at his cigarette. He was hot-boxing it with the windows up. What killed me was that I also noticed he had one of those light-up Papa Johns magnetic delivery signs on top of the car.

Much is given

I have my own little office space in the Medical Center now. I'll post a picture later, but it's pretty neat. It's my own space with a desk and bookshelf and window (NOT overlooking a parking lot), but it's located in a huge lab. Kinda difficult to explain. My phone line will be hooked up on Tuesday, I've already got my own identity on the medical center intranet server (complete with email address @urmc.rochester.edu), and I'll get my own personal work computer whenever I get around to ordering it. Not a bad deal eh? Too bad that there's responsibility tied to all of this...

I made this! (sort of)

We've had this map on the wall for a while and now that we're officially staying in Rochester we thought it was time to actually make it look nice - not just like a poster you would see hanging up in a dorm room.

We got the moulding from Lowes and the stain and clear-coat finish from Wal-Mart. With some help from my friend Bob (a passionate Penguins fan and has cable and lets me watch the games over his house) who has a miter saw, I was able to make this frame. Not too bad if I say so myself.
